Exempting a region from taxes will go a long ways towards appeasing unhappy citizens. Please note that in the box outlining the taxes collected from this region you have the capacity to exempt this region from taxes. In this section you can see how quickly the wealth of the region is growing, as well as how much income in taxes this region is generating. In the middle of this screen is a summary of the region's wealth. You will most often see revolutions and unhappy citizens caused by the recent occupation of a city which formally belonged to a rival, as a reaction to a tax hike, or because the most popular religions in the region is not your national religion. The second bar for each group similarly summarizes all the things that are making your citizens angry. Generally when you are trying to control revolting regions repression will be the single easiest means to do so. Repression of the rabble by local forces is also represented on this bar. The top bar for each class is a graphical representation of the all aspects currently pleasing the citizenry. This is represented by four bars, two for the nobility, and two for the lower classes.
On this screen you can easily see how contented the citizenry of this region is across the top of the screen. To bring up this screen double click on a region capital that you control.
